Christiane Meixner

Christiane Meixner is an editor for the newspaper Tagesspiegel and the magazine Weltkunst. She began writing about contemporary art while studying art history in Bonn and expanded it further after moving to the art metropolis of Cologne in 1992. Since 1999, she has been following the art scene in Berlin, writing from here for the Frankfurter Rundschau, Monopol orKunstforum, among others, and was head of the Kunstmarkt der Zeit from 2017-2019. Despite her concentration on mercantile aspects, she is still most fascinated by direct engagement with art - especially with the subject of drawing such as works on or with paper in general.

Stine Albertsen

Stine Albertsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark,

Co-founded Artfacts.Net in 2001.

With now more than 20 years of experience in art and technology, she co-founded Artfacts in 2001, the leading digital archive and analyst for contemporary art, and its latest addition - Limna, the AI-powered Art Advisor in your Pocket, launched as a mobile app in summer 2021.

Valeria Schulte-Fischedick

Valeria Schulte-Fischedick is currently heading the International Studio Programme at Künstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin. Her latest project there was the curation of the upcoming group exhibition Swimming Pool – Troubled Waters. After finishing her art history studies at Humbold University Berlin, she worked, among others, for the exhibition Louise Bourgeois – Intime Abstraktionen, at Akademie der Künste, Berlin. 2010 until 2013, she was Director at Galerie Opdahl in Berlin. She has published contributions in art journals and exhibition catalogs.

Silvie Aigner

Silvie Aigner studied art history, completed postgraduate studies in cultural management and obtained a doctorate in art studies. She managed the Vienna office of Artscope International from 1991 to 1994 and publishes regularly in art journals. She works as a writer and curator in the field of contemporary art for international and Austrian museums and collections. Since May 2014 she has been editor-in-chief of the art magazine PARNASS.

Jana Schumacher

Jana Schumacher is a visual artist from Hamburg with a focus on abstract drawing and site-specific installations. Order and chaos, collective strategies of action in times of social or environmental change, as well as connections between art and science are central themes of her artistic work. Paper plays a fundamental role

in this.

Together with her partner Drew Matott, she runs the St. Pauli Paperstudio.

Jessica Maria Toliver

Jessica Maria Toliver is a visual artist with a studio in Schwerte, North Rhine-Westphalia.
She has been working in artistic dialogue with paper since 2008. Initially with a focus on often space-oriented paper cuts, she
paper cuts, she increasingly concentrates on multi-layered, conceptual work cycles.
In doing so, she communicates with her material like with a breathing organism and explores the contrast between coarse, abstract
of rough, archaic form and filigree fragility on a sometimes highly abstract level.

In 2022, Jessica Maria Toliver was a scholarship holder at the Paper Residency ! in Munich.

Annette Berr

for d'mage

Director at d’mage, founder and executive manager at d’mage-light, Paper Residency! and the museum Haus des Papiers.
Passionate about art, literature, people. She released numerous books and records and, for decades, toured with different performances all across the country. Recipient of nominations, awards, and scholarships. A turning point led to a re-orientation. Since 2009, she has been running the Fine Art-Print manufacture d’mage and creating impulses all around its cultural network.

Bettina Scheerbarth für Hahnemühle

Paperlove is her passion and her job at the paper manufacturer Hahnemühle. As a trained journalist - with Berlin roots - Bettina has been loyal to fine paper for almost 20 years. She established PR/marketing communications at the traditional German company and is now responsible for corporate and sustainability communications at Hahnemühle. Personally, she is inspired by photography and architecture.

Wilko van Oostrum

Wilko Van Oostrum's life has always been closely linked to photography, and later also to fine art printing. His career began with a successfully completed Bachelor of Professional Photography. Many more stations followed, including at various photography manufacturers, as well as those of all of the associated hardware, forming him into an insider with a keen eye. From analog image material to worlds of digital images, nothing is alien to him.
Due to his long association with large format printing, there is also no fear of really big size pictures.

Organisers art-fair paper positions Berlin

The Directors Kristian Jarmuschek and Heinrich Carstens founded and run the international art fairs POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair and paper positions. Kristian Jarmuschek is a gallery owner and chairman of the Bundesverband Deutscher Galerien und Kunsthändler e.V. (Association of German Galleries and Art Dealers).

Heinrich Carstens was a gallery owner and director of several internationally renowned galleries (including Galerie

Giti Nourbakhsch and Galerie Barbara Thumm). The paper positions art fairs are characterized by a wide range of artworks by renowned names and artistic newcomers, dedicated to the medium of paper in all its facets and fragility. The art fairs of paper positions take place once a year in Berlin, Basel, Munich and Frankfurt and are market leaders in this segment in the German-speaking countries.

Vergabekriterien

AWARD ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

The participation at the upcoming art fair paper positions berlin, August, 19–22, 2021 (i.e. via your representing gallery) is an obligatory requirement for a nomination. All works of contemporary art, physically presented at the art fair and meeting the assessment criteria, will be evaluated by the jury.

There are no age restrictions for the participating artists.

There are no restrictions for place of residence and origin.

The PAPER ART AWARD will honor artworks with an outstanding, inspiring, and original take on paper as material.

The evaluation will be guided by the following aspects: artistic quality, originality, innovative executive approach, potential, possibilities for artistic growth. The art, and the artwork respectively, is able to give impulses and sharpen our awareness for what motivates us.

The artworks must comply with at least one of the following criteria:

Being sculptural or three-dimensional paper art.
Being artistically transformed or processed paper.
Being artistically transformed or artistically processed drawings, paintings, or prints.

Expressly not included in these criteria are drawings, paintings, or prints as such, NOT transformed or processed in any artistic ways.

With the prize money, the award-winning artworks, and other works by the awarded artists respectively, will be purchased by the paper art museum Haus des Papiers for their future presentation to the public in the museum.
